Halloween Gongshow!!!

So "Living The Dream" was a huge success. We packed Who's On First with a sold-out mix of 600 upper and underclassmen and started off the school year with a bang. The dancefloor was just how we like it- sloppy and carefree. Just like Natasha Bedingfield, everyone released their inhibitions and felt the sweat on their skin. Because no-one else can feel it for you, only you can soak it in.

As soon as the lights turned on that night, kids were asking when the next Gongshow would be. We all love a good dance party, and they are too hard to come by these days. We knew from "Living The Dream" that we would need a bigger venue (a pair of Gongshow tickets went for $125 on eBay, no joke!). Avalon, which is a famous club on Lansdowne, seemed to be a good fit because of its huge dancefloor, over a dozen separate bars, VIP balcony, and open stage for dancing.

Halloween is one of the best weekends on the academic calendar. Everybody is more into their costumes than they were in 5th grade, and even the tamest partiers do some monster mashing. This party will be an epic Halloween Gongshow. Get online and start planning your costumes. We will be doing an on-stage costume contest, with the contestants being picked out of the first 500 people to come in the door. The winners (in categories like Sexiest individual, sexiest group, sexiest, etc) will go home with huge cash prizes.

You can use many terms to describe these parties. A gongshow. A s**tshow. A disaster. A crime scene. A yard sale. Whatever you call it, know that these are the nights that we will miss when we graduate. See you on the 26th.

The Boston Globe says that this will be the "dirtiest dancefloor of the decade." The Wall Street Journal is predicting Friday morning market fluctuations due to future global business tycoons sleeping-in after the historic gongshow. This is an event where the damsels of Upper Campus will emerge for the first time, only to be challenged by Newton's finest vixens. This may be the only night of the year when senior boys will claim to live in Kostka. This will be an absolute gongshow and a can't miss night.

We've always enjoyed hosting parties. For the past two years, parties celebrating the glory of Has Beens Hockey have attracted long lines of BC coeds down Ignacio hallways. Only the elite have been admitted. But on September 7th, the first Thursday night on the academic calendar, the boys from Gongshow@BC have planned a much larger event. We have rented out Who's On First, the club next to Fenway Park most famous for its unmatched dancefloor scene. With a capacity of 600, among the larger of the Boston clubs, we felt that it would be a good location for the most memorable back to school ridiculous-fest evaaaaa.
This event will definetly sell out. For that reason, we will be releasing tickets in limited spurts immediately when kids start moving back. Details on where and how to get tickets will be posted on this website (bcgongshow.com), which is also home to the acclaimed Gongshow@BC blog for all of you froshy vixens and eager young bucks. It will be 18+ to party, 21+ to drink. This is the first party of its kind since we have been at BC and we think it will be a highlight of the fall. This will be a can't miss party. We can already see the droves of new freshmen getting rowdy on the green line en route to Who's.
There will be a Facebook group and a Facebook event soon. In the meantime, spread the word, stay-tuned to bcgongshow.com, and get ready to get silly.

BACK TO SCHOOL GONGSHOW

The boys from Gongshow@BC are planning a 18+ bash for the first week of school. We have rented out a large club and details will be released soon. This will be like a Has Beens Party times 1000. Start telling your friends. This will be the unofficial main event of Freshman Welcome Week.

It's been a great summer for the authors. We defined "gongshow" for the quaint island of Nantucket over the 4th of July and right now Pearcey is at the TB Lightning rookie camp just being his regular old brick wall self. We hope everyone is enjoying their time off but gearing up for another great year at the Heights. See you soon. Stay tuned for details of the Back to School Gongshow.

THE GREATEST COMEBACK EVER

Lance Armstrong came back. Mario Lemieux came back. The Red Sox came back. And now, because of constant pestering from adoring fans, we are all going to be able to tell our grandchildren about the day that the Gongshow@BC came back.
We have lots to catch up on. Of course, the Has Beens went on to win the intramural championship for the second straight season. That makes the Has Beens 2 for 2. The squad thanks you for your support.

In other hockey news, the fledgling B.C. Club Hockey program enjoyed its first season of inter-collegiate play. Battling opponents like B.U. and Northeastern, the Eagles are still undefeated in club hockey play and are looking forward to a full schedule next year against top-notch club programs.
And now for the biggest hockey story of the year at the Heights (and no, we aren't talking about the bench-clearing brawl which took place at the Has Beens v. District 5 gongshow of a game, which the HB's won en route to their 2nd IM mug)-- the Boston College Eagles forged their way through the NCAA Regionals and into Frozen Four play. This is the sort of stuff which really gets Gongshow@BC fans going. The boys fought valiantly and made it to the National Championship game v. Wisconsin. Congrats to the boys and coaching staff for being BC's Team of the Year.

There's tons of things we would like to mention here, but we'll discuss what immediately comes to mind...

The Great Soy Sauce Heist, Foiled!!- On Friday night,an unidentified white male was seen being escorted out of Lower Dining Hall (in handcuffs) around 2:30 AM. Prior to his capture, lots of commotion was seen inside the dimly-lit dining hall as cooks and dining staff pointed BCPD to the suspect. He was apprehended and loaded gently into a squad car. The evidence (which was carried by a BCPD officer and loaded into another squad car)--- two large plastic containers, one of Soy Sauce and the other of an unidentified light-colored condiment. Updates to follow.

MODS SWEATSUITS- Everyone has seen these two-piece monstrosities. MODS sweatsuits, complete with embroidered Mod numbers. And nobody thought you could get more "college" than the BC Beirut Team t-shirts.
Speaking of the Mods, we're sure everyone has read about BC'S Campus Master Plan. Within ten years, the Mods will be no longer. For BC alumni, returning to a Mod-less lower campus will be like hurricane victims returning to their old neighborhoods to find nothing but stray dogs and scrap wood. Like Fenway Park, the Mods are historic. Whatever building is constructed on the Mod land will be forever haunted by drunk ghosts in black Mods sweatsuits.

Applebees Wednesday Night Karaoke- We know the school year is pretty much over, but we had to mention this. The past few Wednesday nights have been crazy at The 'Bees. This revival can be attributed 100% to the arrival of karaoke. This writer felt like Ferris Bueller while doing a T-stopping rendition of "Twist and Shout" with the crowd getting into it while sipping daintily on $2 liquid colleges.

Condoleeza Rice- Commencement Speaker This controversial decision has been the topic of campus-wide debate for a week now. The administration has reportedly issued a proposal to replace Condi with the more politically neutral, and more unpredictable, Chief Morningstar. The Chief had no comment on the matter, but then again, he was unconcious in the ATM booth.

Marathon Monday- What a gongshow! Perhaps the biggest day of the year on campus, and the Gongshow@BC didn't recap it. But honestly, Marathon Monday cannot be put into words, so we won't try. We'll just say shame on those of you who didn't make it back for the festivities, you will regret that for the rest of your life.

Final Exams- Good luck to all of our readers with their finals. You can find us in Bapst or in the private study rooms at O'Neill.

Back From Sabbatical/ The Pro Spring Breaker

As you all know, this is a busy time of year at the Heights. Midterms are upon us, Olympic Curling has been going on, and Clinton Kelly of TLC's What Not to Wear has been on campus. That leaves little time for us to pursue our other interests like the Gongshow@BC, people-watching at Hillside, getting huge at the Plex, and rescuing orphaned seal pups in frigid New England coastal waters.

Spring Break Special: This coming weekend, many BC students will embark on the annual gongshow that is Spring Break. Popular destinations for BC kids include the Bahamas, Aruba, Jamaica, Cancun, Miami and Palm Beach, Ignacio/Conte Forum, and various skiing locales up North and out West. For some, Spring Break is a time to kick back, get some sun, and have a good time with friends. For others, Spring Break is a time to perform. Enter the Pro Spring Breaker.
Similar to the Growing Up Gotti kids, the Pro Spring Breaker is among the worst forms of the human species. As Pittsburgh Penguin and Gongshow@BC correspondent Ryan Whitney says, "We train all summer for hockey season... these kids train all year for Spring Break." The Pro Spring Breaker sees his one week vacation as a way to show the world what he's got- how many barbed-wire tattooes he has, how many times he has gone to the tanning salon, how much creatine he has ingested into his sculpted and completely shaven body. The Pro Spring Breaker has no problem foregoing a decent education to go to a community college to save his money for one week of meathead fights, clogged toilets, puka shells, henna tattooes, sweaty clubs, date rapes, and hotel room damage fees in Cancun. Let's all think back to MTV's "The Grind," which was among the worst programs ever in television history. It was essentially a hundred Pro Spring Breakers and their disease-carrying damsels dancing in urine-filled wading pools for the MTV cameras. To get some face time on MTV during spring break is the Holy Grail for any spring break hero. A victory in the Hard Body Contest translates into three seasons of bragging rights to all the juice monkey meatsticks at the local Gold's Gym. Spring Break for these guys is a condensed version of the Jersey Shore summer, it just takes place at a warmer locale. The Pro Spring Breaker's vision of a perfect day of Spring Breaking goes like this: Noon- wake up in mysteriously wet hotel bed with your three meathead friends, no girls in sight. For an hour or two, brag to each other about the hot chicks you were making out with on the dancefloor at Senor Frog's. 2 PM- Rid your body of toxins by forcing yourself to vomit in the toilet, which didn't even flush when you checked into the hotel. Lather yourself in tanning oil, gel your hair, do 20 push ups to get the veins in your arms bulging. 3 PM- Head down to the beach. There is a lot of competition down there, and you see thousands of other Pro Spring Breakers brushing sand off of their shaven arms and legs. Scope out the musclehead with the obvious calf implants and consider undergoing the surgery yourself. 6 PM- Eat at S'Barro's for the eleventh consecutive meal. Who would've thought that a six-hundred dollar plane ticket would get you gross reheated pizza that is availible at every reststop on the Mass Pike? 7 PM- Nap time. Snuggle up with your buddies and discuss strategy for the night. Everyone plans on hooking up with the hot chicks from the beach. Pending decisions include what stud to wear in your ear, what tight t-shirt to wear, what cologne to wear, and whether you should go controlled-chaos or blowout with the hair or wear a terrible Kangol with a racing stripe. 9 PM- Pre-gaming begins. There's nothing quite like seven steroid-enhanced metrosexuals sitting around a hotel room drinking wine coolers. 10 PM- Hit the clubs, baby. Every sort of dirty-dancing, bumping & grinding, and gyrating will be seen in the clubs (see video links below). High school girls are everywhere. Rack up $300 in credit card debt buying tequila shots for some hairdressers from Revere. Midnight- Get in a fight. This is mandatory. Chicks love a meathead who can challenge a high school golf team who has snuck out of their hotel to a fight in the middle of the dancefloor. 2 AM- Look around for the weakest deer in the herd. This exact process can be seen on the Discovery Channel. Circle the female on the dancefloor like a shark circling Nemo. 4 AM- Nemo is gone. Everyone has gone home. But you still dance. No chicks. Just guys. Just you and your boys, having a blast. The second round of ecstasy is just kicking in. 4:30 AM- Blackout. See you in the morning. God, it's good to be a Pro Spring Breaker.

NEWSFLASH: High Schoolers on Facebook! Now this is a move that really defines Mark Zuckerberg's career. The founder of Facebook.com has now integrated the college and high school Facebook networks. This is the best thing that has happened to us socially since we got our braces off. Now we can be Facebook friends with our buddies' little sisters, their high school girl friends, and well, other high school girls. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea, after all.

These are the worst kids in the world. Growing up on the Jersey Shore, Pearcey was born hating these kids. As Greels found out on the 1st Annual Tour de Shore 2005, the Jersey Shore is infested with these metrosexual, gel-abusing, self-tanner hording, lip-puckering, tip-frosting, blowout-wearing, velour-wearing, sideways Kangol hat-wearing, leased Cadillac-driving, rims-spinning, cheeseball-eating, club-hopping, wife-beating, weekend Shore-house renting, Garden State Parkway driving, ear-piercing, leg-shaving, diamond stud wearing, skin-moisturizing, bling-blinging, D&G sunglass sporting, steroid-using, glowstick dancing, boombox-blasting, Yankees rooting, armpit sweating, terribly-smelling, mirror-checking, eyebrow-waxing, tanning bed owning, barbed-wire tatoo wearing, hair-spiking, chinstrap-wearing, colored-contact lense wearing, Steve Madden wearing, Golds Gym grunting, wastes of life.
Out of all the ill-fated cultural movements in American history, including the Branch Davidians of Waco and Heaven's Gate Cult, this is probably the most treacherous. They come from places like Staten Island, Yonkers, North Jersey, and parts of Long Island. When they aren't at the gym doing curls and bench press, they can be seen shining the new 22" rims on their leased Escalades. These kids would be out of place at any BC event, and instead would probably be more comfortable heading downtown to places like Rumor and Aria to do some fist-pumping.

BALCO Potato/BC Dining Exposé/Dance-Off!

Stop staring. You're being really rude. Like you've never seen a 12" potato before. By golly, look at the girth on that thing!
But seriously kids, this is an actual potato found in Lower Dining Hall. See how it compares to a quarter in the picture. We bought it after we noticed major foot traffic around the self-serve grill area. People were gawking. Rubberneckers ceased all salad-tossing and gathered around to see the super-potato only imagined before in the late Dr. Atkins' carbo nightmares.
After we grabbed the potato, we noticed men in black suits and Ray-Bans talking into hidden radio transmitters. We then brought the voluminous vegetable up to 90 for steroid testing and preliminary x-rays. As we anticipated, there was something suspicious going on. Further examination in the infirmary suggested that the potato was an underage intoxicated female and it was transported to St. Elizabeth's. That part we made up. But seriously, this is something that needs to be addressed. Because of the recent increase in oversized produce (12" bananas, huge nuts, etc) found in BC dining halls, the Gongshow@BC would like to propose a random steroid testing system comparable to that in baseball.
This is only the first of many issues plaguing our cafeteria system. The "Turkey Nazi" of Hillside Cafe (aka "The Refrigerator") is one of the most hated employees at our university. For years, the Fridge has been denying diners even the most meager of requests: an extra slice of roast beef, a combination of cheddar and herb cheese, grill requests from the outside lines, a pleasant Hillside experience, among others. He is a big man and rules with authority over his work-study sandwich making elves. The other day, the Fridge publicly berated one of such said elves for giving a diner his requested turkey/roast beef combo. A heated argument followed between the sympathetic diner and the Turkey Nazi, and he began screaming "NO PANINI FOR YOU, NO PANINI FOR YOU!!"
Another recent issue in campus-wide cafeterias is the post-9/11 security checks of closed containers at the register. This includes plastic carry trays, bookbags, Sean Williams' Afro, sharp metal objects, the inside of pita pockets, and even coffee cups. It seems that the cafeteria was losing so much revenue to Swedish Fish smugglers and the hidden cookie in the FroYo trick that they thought this was a necessary action. Now students are prone to random, extremely invasive cavity searches at the register. A uniformed cafeteria manager carries out the search, and on rare occasions, brings students into the "back room" for an even more thorough examination which often includes a BBQ sauce massage and spatula spankings.

Chief Morningstar v. Bain Train Dance Off!--> The man, the myth, the drunk. Chief MorningStar. This Cleveland Circle character recently survived a knife attack. This is a true story. Chief got into a scuffle with "some dude" who pulled out a knife ("like samurai s**t, you know!") and tried to stab Chief. He slashed Chief's hand, and there is still a long, open wound on his palm. Chief prevailed however, and "pulled a Colt .45 out of my jacket and knocked him out cold!" Chief does more than just fight, however. He also screams at the graveyard in the middle of the night, claiming to passersby that if you scream loud enough, you can hear voices screaming back at you. Most of us call these screams "echoes," but it seems to entertain Chief, so let's not ruin it for him. On top of hearing voices, the Chief is also one sick dancer. Seriously. Things are finally getting back to normal around campus. Hillside was packed, with a refreshing batch of junior vixens back from their adventures abroad and other BC coeds showing off their Florida/ Hawaii/ Endless Summer Tanorama/ Chanel Bronzer tans. Santa Claus is always good to BC students, and we saw a lot of new iPod Nano's being passed around. It's gotten to the point where if you don't have the white earbuds snaking out of your North Face fleece, you might as well be wearing parachute pants, a fanny pack, and a Starter Jacket. Last year, we bought the trademark iPod earbuds and tucked them into our iPod-less pockets. We had the whole campus fooled, until that one fateful April day when Pearcey botched the tuck-job.

STUFF: Gongshow@BC has continued to grow and get positive press- In today's "Heights," there is a feature on blogs and the Gongshow@BC is showcased. The "Heights" staff has continued to impress us with their intrepid journalism and instinctive knowledge of the gongshow lifestyle. Go grab a copy and check out the article.

Luke Russert & "The Ragin' Cajun" James Carville on XM Satellite Radio: Gongshow@BC field correspondent Luke Russert is making the jump from arguing with us to arguing with Democratic political strategist, former Clinton aide, and commentator James Carville. The pair will have their own debate-style sports radio show on XM Satellite Radio starting in March. Luke, who spent the past summer interning at ESPN as "Stat Boy" on Pardon the Interruption, is very excited about the show and knows he has the Gongshow@BC empire behind him. For our Gongshow@BC fans who don't keep up with their politics, you might remember Carville from the hilarious debate scene in "Old School." TONIGHT- Luke's show, will be called "60/20" (the ages of the co-hosts), will be announced tonight on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno at 11:30 PM NBC.

Around Campus: Mother Nature has been throwing major curveballs lately. We came back to school and it was balmy, almost spring-like. Kids were smiling, the skirts were out, and the dustbowl was full of frisbee enthusiasts. Then came the monsoon season, which was devastating for those vixens who hadn't waterproofed their Uggs. O'Neill Plaza was Puddle City, and campus was an umbrella graveyard. This morning, we woke up to a blizzard. Again, we want all Gongshow@BC readers to thanks the grounds crew warriors who keep the stairways and sidewalks safe for passing- they're just good guys.

Chris Collins for Hobey: We'd like to officially nominate Chris Collins, BC Hockey's leading sniper, for the Hobey Baker award. The Hobey is college hockey's most prestigious individual honor, and Chris has been on fire all year. Go to HobeyBaker.com to support Chris, a loyal Gongshow@BC reader.
In other hockey news, BC goaltender Cory Schneider has been an absolute force in net recently, as read on ESPN.com. Schneids stopped all 55 shots he faced against UVM this weekend, and is tied for the most shutouts in a season for a BC goalie. Keep it up, Cory.
The BC Women's Hockey squad continued their unprecedented season by sweeping Comm. Ave rival BU in a home and away series this weekend. Goalie Alison Quandt earned Hockey East Player of the Week honors.

Now before all you Gongshow@BC diehards burn down Ignacio, let us assure you that nothing will change with the Gongshow as you know it. We are simply branching out to a wider audience, and the Gongshow column in Barstool Sports will be separate from the Gongshow@BC blog. For those of you who aren't familiar with Barstool Sports, it is a Boston newspaper written "By the common man, for the common man." Think of it as a Maxim Magazine but in newspaper form, with great spreads of local vixens, sports commentary, funny interviews, and other entertaining stuff. It comes out once every two weeks and can be found at Roggie's and in bins on street corners, T stations, Fr. Leahy's office, et cetera. Be sure to pick up a copy, if not for our column, for a look at the hottest bartenders in this beautiful city.
We are very excited about this, and we think you guys will enjoy it. The Gongshow@BC empire is growing, and we are working on some big things for the spring. Eagles Win Denver Cup, Pearcey = MVP

As the Gongshow Gods predicted, the BC Eagles prevailed in Colorado and defeated an overmatched Princeton squad for the prestigious Wells Fargo Denver Cup. Pearcey, naturally, was named Tournament MVP as he kicked out 53 out of the 57 shots he faced in the two games vs. Ferris State and Princeton. This feat is especially impressive because this was the first time Pearcey was in net for the Eagles in two years. Pretty good for a Jersey Shore surfer boy who has the Endless Summer motif on his goalie helmet. Congrats to Pearcey for a job well done.

BC Hockey has historically fared well in Colorado- the Eagles' first NCAA Championship victory was won in Colorado Springs in 1949. So not only does Colorado provide BC with many a great hockey memory, but the Centennial State's Rocky Mountains are the natural spring source of Coor's Light barley juice, which BC students enjoy in abundance at the Cleveland Circle Applebee's for a competitive $2/pint.

Big Ups: **Chris Collins, a venerable force for the Puck Squad, is on a rampage this year. Two of his league-leading 15 goals helped BC cruise to a Denver Cup victory last night. **Johnny Ayers, America's favorite punter, kept his cool despite brutal weather conditions in Boise as BC held off the Boise State Broncos in the MaryAnn's Bathroom Bowl. He followed his nerves-of-steel goal-line punting performance by holding up the BC football plane on the tarmac at the Boise airport because he did not set an alarm. It was ok, though, he's a limo driver. **Cory Schneider, who is in Vancouver being a true patriot and playing for USA in the World Junior's. Schneids has been his usual self, unpenetrable, dashing, intelligent, bold, elegant, etc and he will continue to mind the net in the quarterfinals Jan. 2nd against the Czech Republic.

The Gongshow@BC was well-represented on a national scale last night, which turned out to be quite the New Year's Eve. Greels was in Boston, bringing in 2006 with a largely Harvard crowd. There were many Gongshow@BC fans in attendance, and it was great to get feedback from non-BC readers. Who would have thought that we would be autographing bared chests just because of a blog? Pearcey was in Denver, setting all sorts of records and making everyone proud. Happy Holidays and Best Wishes to all of our friends who we were not with last night, we'll all be together soon at the Has Beens' Back to School/ New Year's Ever All Over Again Bash.

With the Gongshow@BC on a holiday break, we'd like to keep you up to date on all things Gongshow:

Pearcey is out in Denver playing for the Eagles in the Wells Fargo Denver Cup. Last night, in his first college hockey game since freshman year (I am not counting his games at the helm of the Has Beens), Pearcey was a force in net as he lead the Eagles to a barnburning shoot-out victory, thus advancing them to the finals of the Denver Cup, tonight vs. Princeton at 9 EST. The taller half of Gongshow@BC has fared well in past holiday tournaments, as he was named MVP of the Great Lakes Invitational in Michigan during his freshman year. Despite the late start to the game, we can rest assured that the boys will fight valiantly.
Good Luck to Pearcey, a "holiday tournament specialist," and the rest of the squad.

Final Exams: Killing the gongshow spirit at BC since 1863.

So it's finals week here at the Heights, and we are not happy about it. It's freezing out, the BC ballers dropped their ACC debut against Maryland, and the Rat is officially closed for the holidays. You know it's a depressing time of the year when using the automatic stapling machine in O'Neill Library is the highlight of your day. If you haven't done that yet, make your way up(or down) to Middle Campus and give it a whirl. It's addicting. The power stapler, located on the counter in the Copy Center, is an industrial-strength marvel of modern library technology. With a laser-powered paper detection system, the beast staples your case study together before you can say "WAHANA." It's not a quiet machine, either. Like all other manly power tools, it gets the job done with an authoritative BAM! Freshman girls have been known to drop their Nalgene bottles at the sudden sound, while the well-seasoned, geriatric cuties working the Circulation Desk barely adjust their bifocals. If the Super Stapler was street legal, (that is, available for home use,) it would be the king of all things that can "chop your finger right off!!"- ranking somewhere between the grass-clogged lawnmower and the fork-jammed kitchen sink garbage disposal. Just as every respectable man's man aspires to one day own a chainsaw, every legit librarian wants her own Super Stapler.
There's also other things to do during finals week at BC to relax for a while: you can go Hillside and watch espresso-chugging, Adderall-fueled students study for their exams and wonder why you aren't doing the same; go to MaryAnn's and watch non-Massachusetts residents get rejected at the door; listen to white BC students spit dope rhymes in the tradition of Miami's 7th Floor Crew (though not as lewd), work on your field goal kicking because Troost is graduating this year, go back and read some of the original Gongshow@BC entries, check up on God's team- the "Has Beens," buy tickets to the MPC Computers Bowl (which will feature BC v. Boise State and will be played in Ryne Reynoso's backyard manure garden), get an inside look at BC's secret underground tunnel between Gasson and Devlin, see (via WebCam) how crowded it is in Lower Dining Hall, or read up on the latest Jesuits v. GLBT battle in the BC Blog- who ever said that St. Ignatius wouldn't enjoy a dance titled "The GLC Diversity Ball: A Night in Gay Paris?" Maybe it's just a really liberal interpretation of "setting the world aflame." However the cookie crumbles, a small (but vocal) demographic at BC just lost their fabulous little gongshow to the swashbuckling Jesuits.

Hillside Napkin Notes: We all know about the terrible things that come with winter, atrocities such as the sub-zero temperatures and the biting New England wind chill factor. We at Gongshow@BC would like to remind our reading public, specifically BC coeds, that the cold weather is no excuse to wear a full sweatsuit to class every day. We already know what you're going to say- it's exam time, everyone's stressed out, you have no time for laundry... well we don't have much time for girls (or BC Football's #134) who wear the Rocky Balboa Tuxedo to Hillside four days in a row. Unless, of course, you are just passing through on your way to run the Million Dollar Stairs.
Speaking of Hillside etiquette, there's another winter issue which really gets our Fruit of the Looms in a bunch. The double doors facing Conte Forum have a very slow recoil- resulting in prolonged mega-drafts of frigid air which sweep through the cafe and ruin that Hillside ambience which we all know and love. From now on, please enter through the main doors or you will feel the wrath of super-nice clean-up guy aka "How are you doing today?-I'm Great, Thanks!!!" guy. Speaking of the Dining Services MVP, he will be featured and interviewed in an upcoming blog. Stay tuned.

BIG UPS: Big Ups to the SUNY Brockport men's roller hockey team, not only are you blading beauties ranked eighth in the nation, but you are huge fans of the GONGSHOW-- if only pro beach hockey still existed. Big Ups to the BC Grounds Maintenance crew. These guys work hard to keep BC looking shipshape and they're always smiling while doing so. During last week's blizzard, they were outside shoveling the pathways and stairs in the bitter cold- just so that no froshy vixens would lose traction on their Uggs and take a tumble between Kostka and McElroy. Next time you see them, be sure to thank these true heroes of the Heights.

Thanksgiving Leftovers

Your boys from Gongshow@BC spent Thanksgiving at the Greeley home in Scituate, Mass. Scituate is a charming South Shore community and is proudly nicknamed the "Irish Riviera." It was the perfect setting for a Turkey Day Feast and Jan Greeley really outdid herself with a smorgasbord of delicious delicacies. We hope all of our readers had an equally enjoyable holiday.

A true gongshow knows the importants of academics and getting the most out of Boston College, and we here at Gongshow@BC have our priorities straight. Right now, BC students are coming down the home stretch of the academic semester- a grueling few weeks of final projects, exams, and the like. Hence, today's blog will just be a few quick snippets for you to enjoy.

Free Burrito Day- Boloco, formerly known as The Wrap, is a Cleveland Circle staple for the crunchy BC student. We have been huge Wrap fans for years, and we support the name change as John Pepper (Wrap co-founder) looks to promote Boloco's product as an "inspired burrito" and not as a cold, boring wrap. From 11am-7pm on Tuesday (29th!), Boloco will be winning back the hearts of Cleveland Circle diners by giving away free burritos. We'll be there, and you can be damn certain that Homeless Indian Rock Star (formerly known as Crazy Drunk Violent Homeless Indian aka Chief), Dallas Cowboys Starter Jacket/ moustache guy, and mis-matched sneaker non-crust eating Bank of America ATM guy will all be there too.

Bostonians Christmas Concert- The Bostonians, Gongshow@BC's favorite campus a cappella group since Annie Murphy retired from The Sharps, are having their annual holiday show this Saturday (12/3) at 7pm. Alex Bain aka Bain Train, a loyal Gongshow@BC reader and also a new uncle to Luke Alexander Foley, is a stud bass in the group and will surely shine come Saturday night.

BC/BU Hockey Weekend- This series is the epitome of college hockey, and any matchup between the two Comm. Ave juggernauts is steeped in tradition. This Beanpot preview might even outdraw the Bostonians concert and will have the electric atmosphere of a Has Beens / Puck U. overtime thriller. The Gongshow@BC family has ties to both sides of this rivalry, as Steve Greeley (older brother of Mike) played at BU (01-04) and co-author Joe Pearce is a BC netminder. God Bless Everyone. On a sidenote, we want to remind all 21+ BC Superfans that alcoholic beverages are sold at Agganis Arena, so pace yourself accordingly at Roggie's Happy Hour and get to Agganis in time for the National Anthem. Good Luck to the Eagles- Friday at Conte and Saturday at Agganis.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Miyagi- On November 24th, the world lost one of its greatest ninja's. Pat Morita, who also appeared in over 100 made-for-TV movies / Lifetime specials/ junior high sex-ed videos, was made famous by the Karate Kid trilogy and will be missed dearly by aspiring ninjas and fellow dojo masters worldwide.

A True BC Vixen- A Mod-dwelling beauty has been spotted in Barstool Sports' Meet the Model. Jen, who hails from Lynnfield, Mass, preserves the reputation of BC's Connell School of Nursing for being a factory for classy, attractive BC coeds. This is not the first time BC has been well represented in Barstool Sports' Meet the Model- we don't know if she is a BC girl, but Kristen from Woburn can certainly pull off the Superfan shirt in a way that would make any Kostka boy smile. Thanks to the BC Blog for digging these up and for showing the Gongshow@BC so much love.

BigUps: *Tyrese Rice, a froshy baller out of VA, is this week's ACC Rookie of the Week. With 21 points in the championship game of the Las Vegas Invitational, this trey-draining phenom should have a huge season for the Dirty Birds, who are predicted by the NY Times to be front-runners for the National Championship this year. *The Pilgrims and Indians- These guys were really onto something with the whole Thanksgiving feast idea. And to think it's been almost 400 years since that original gongshow in Plymouth- we remember it like it was yesterday.

Gongshow/ Heights Coincidence??

Today, while perusing The Heights, our favorite BC newspaper, we were dismayed to find glaring similarities between past gongshow@BC discussions and the most recent "Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down" (pg. A7, The Heights, Nov. 21) opinion column. As our readers certainly remember, we brought to light the story behind the "Smelly Quad" in our November 2nd entry. We also commented on the problems created by cash-paying diners in Hillside, a process which holds up the line and creates humongous traffic jams. Coincidentally, The Heights managed to cover both these topics today, in a very similar fashion to how we did it, in their Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down column. Do great minds think alike or have we uncovered the biggest scandal in journalism since the Jayson Blair / New York Times fiasco?
Here at gongshow@BC, journalistic integrity is of utmost importance. We figure that if we aren't putting our own thoughts out there, in our own way, then we have nothing. We are proud of our work, and it tickles us to think that we are nearing the 11,000 Hit mark. But if The Heights is going to start pulling ideas from the gongshow@BC, we are going to expect a little love from The Heights and some proper citation. As soon as Monday's Heights came out, dozens of gongshow@BC fans were calling us after noticing the similarities. Now we don't want to start throwing the P-word around, but we really hope this doesn't happen again. Talk about bush league.

News from the "Smelly Quad"- Now as if things in the Quad weren't smelly enough already, we have observed several elderly women harvesting the Ginkgo Biloba berries from the grass under the tree. We reckon that these farmers from the Far East are using the berries, which are widely known to benefit brain functions and circulatory health, for holistic purposes, Chinese gingko recipes, and for relieving the vicious aftermath of an evening of Sake Bombing. If you see these amateur harvesters, give them a hand and throw some Ginkgo three-pointers into their baskets.

Big Ups: *We want to recognize one of the most familiar faces on campus- Can Lady aka The Canimal. This Weekend Warrior can be seen poking around the Mods, collecting beer cans and throwing Ginkgo berries at unsuspecting froshy vixens. Godspeed, Canimal. *Chris Collins deserves a pat on the bum for his DIRTY snipage in this weekend's hockey win vs. Northeastern. Although the backhand toe-drag has never been successful on Pearcey in practice, BC's leading scorer aka Mr. BoDangles came through with the game-winner. *Craig Smith aka Mista Smiff aka Get 'Em Craaaig, BC's baddest baller who just recently got his braces off (watch out vixens!), just turned 22 and is now rollin' on dub twoz. CHEA! *The Miami Footballers who released the most popular football song (this song is rated R for adult language) since The Super Bowl Shuffle. Rumor has it that this is the new Miami Fight Song.

All Things Crunchy / Laguna Bash / Tidbits

All Things CRUNCHY- Crunchy people are a breed of their own. Similar to "college", everybody has a little bit of crunch in them, but some people are just total crunchmasters. Some of our readers have no idea what we are talking about when we call somebody "crunchy", so tonight we are going to try to define this lifestyle. But before all you baby-booming gongshow fans fire up the kitchen stove for some tye-dying or dust off your Woodstock-era peacepipe, let us remind you to not confuse "crunchiness" with being a hippie.
And now, as best we can, a brief description of the stereotypical crunchy person.
Habitat: The crunchy person can be found tight-rope walking on the BC campus, playing the bongo drums at the commune, in coffeeshops (including the Hillside bar), hiking the Appalachian Trail, strumming their guitar/ reading in the Dustbowl, or protesting unfair Malaysian labor laws in front of Conte Forum. While the average BC student is discussing a recent Has Beens gongshow at Roggies, the crunchy kids are discussing their latest Save the Whales efforts at Moogy's (gongshow sidenote-Moogy's has $1 drafts all day, and some great crunchy healthy food.)
Wardrobe/ Appearance: Crunchy people love corduroys, Birkenstocks, anything hemp, camping backpacks, Patagonia furry fleeces, wool socks, ski caps with outflowing nappy fro, carabiner keychains, and Nalgene bottles (with a Free Tibet sticker, of course) carabinered to their North Face backpack with a yoga mat protruding out the top. The crunchy guys often have beards, while the crunchiest women have furry legs. Diet: The Crunchy food pyramid is dominated by organic, earthy foods- sprouts, Odwalla bars and juices, chick peas, hummus, tofu, pita pockets & chips, vegetarian panini's, Fresh Samantha juice, granola, yogurt, raisins, trail mix, unsalted pistachios, soy milk, etc.
Transportation: Crunchy methods of transportation include longboarding, barefoot walking, biking, hybrid cars, old school Land Rovers, Volvo's, Saab's, Volkswagens or Subaru Outbacks. A crunchy car almost always has ski racks and Grateful Dead, Phish, or other bumper stickers protesting something.

A crunchy person is diet-Hippie, Hippie Lite, or Neo-Hippie. In a lot of cases, he would love to be a hippie but his parents have invested too much in him for him to become a hardcore earth-lover. Crunchy people, who are (unexplainably) often Jewish or Christian Scientist, come from all over the country, but you will find a high concentration at the New England prep schools, or at the small New England colleges (Middlebury, Amherst, Bates, etc). UVM students walk the hippie/crunchy line. BC students are usually more of a yuppie-crunch. They are crunchy, but they keep it crunchy while also following the unwritten lifestyle guidelines of the Heights. Element-proof North Face jackets dominate the campus, and the Plex is littered with indestructible Nalgene bottles- but in all honesty, the only elements the North Face's are conquering are splashed Busch Lights on the 1914 dancefloor, and the only extreme usage Nalgene bottles get is by booze-smuggling Eagles fans in the Alumni Stadium student section.
Disclaimer: Everybody has a little crunch in them. We consider ourselves to be part-time participants in the BC yuppie-crunch movement. It's a good style, and the diet-crunchy is mainstream here. So don't get your thermal underwear in a bunch- we all know who the leader of the Crunch Brunch is. We don't know his name, but we have all seen him tight-rope walking, skipping barefoot through campus, and dominating trail mix. He is just way too crunchy.

why: We at gongshow@BC are heterosexual, but we are quick to admit admiration for the kids from Laguna Beach. They are living a sweet life with their friends in Cali, beautiful vixens, nice weather, etc. Now they are getting paid to tour the country and have these Laguna Beach parties in major college towns. It's like being a pro athlete or a rockstar, but instead of partying after you play/perform/work, you just go straight to partying. What a job. This party is sure to be a gongshow and there is already scores of BC Thursday nighters planning on heading downtown for the night. See the studs from the show and get silly on the dancefloor with coeds from the other Boston schools. 18+ to party, 21+ to drink. Officially endorsed by gongshow@BC.

We are nearing the 10,000 visitors mark, and believe us, it is very exciting. 10,000 is the "second base" of the blogging world, and the suspense is bringing me right back to senior spring in high school when that "second base" dream became a reality. Just kidding, course. It was senior winter.
A few housekeeping tidbits:

If you haven't browsed our loyal fanbase lately, you will be quick to realize that is collectively the best looking group on Facebook. Get in there if you want to be bumping and grinding at the next Has Beens bonanza. Male fans can join, too.

"For Boston"- So we've realized that very few of us actually know all of the words to our Fight Song. This is semi-embarrassing, and we think everyone should learn it and know it before they graduate. We don't know all the words, but we do know that "For Boston" has some major potential as a techno remix.

Homeless Drunk Indian, UNPLUGGED- You all know him. He hangs in front of the Cleveland Circle 7/11 or in the Bank of America ATM. He frequently berates BC students and passersby for being on his land. He is sometimes violent. He is always intoxicated. He is a legend. And now he is a rock star. We're not sure how it happened, but the Chief and his comrades have got their hands on several musical instruments and now spend their time jamming out and singing instead of shouting obscenities at freshman girls. Chief has really turned over a new leaf here, and he has invited us to hear him and the Chieftains rock out on weekend nights in the Circle. Please support Chief however you can, as he is being friendly and cooperative and he actually plays a pretty mean keyboard. Rock and Roll, Chief.

Starter Jackets / Jerseys- Back in elementary school, Starter Jackets were all the craze. It seemed like every kid on the playground had a BC, Notre Dame, Michigan, Bruins, Patriots, or Celtics Starter Jacket, and those lacking the half-zip hooded holiness were labeled as geeks, wieners, or peasants. I never had a Starter Jacket. I got by, however- by borrowing my friend's Starter Jackets, I made it look as though I had a constantly rotating selection of the finest outerwear at Hatherly School. The reason we are talking about Starter Jackets is because the NHL is back and Bruins fans are once again flocking to Causeway Street. Bruins fans are perhaps the most blue-collar group of sports fans in Boston. If you scan the crowd at a B's Battle, you will see thousands of mulleted middle-aged men with killer beer guts in Bruins Starter Jackets or shiny satin B's button-ups. The B's Starter Jacket is the Garden's version of the seersucker blazer. It's super classy, but this fashion gem can also survive a few spilled beers or ketchup stains. Those bleacher creatures who are not sporting the Starter are almost certainly flaunting a Bruins jersey with their favorite Bruin's name and number proudly stitched on back. You'll see a lot of throwbacks- Moog, Bourque, Lemelin, O'Reilly; and also some newbies- Thornton, Alberts, Leahy (a kid whom I pee'd on one time when he slept over the Greeley house back in the day- true story). The guys wearing these jerseys consider them the "Green Jacket" of Beantown and wear them with confidence and a ferocity unique to Boston sports fans. Our question is, can adult males rock the sports jersey?

How old is too old? The sports jersey is a staple of the young American male's wardrobe. An authentic jersey is instant credibility for any middle school jock in this country. A good b-ball jersey is a money addition to any kid's wardrobe. A Sox jersey, on the right occasion, can be the silver bullet in the wooing of any New England vixen. But does jersey-wearing have to stop at some point? Except in some very extreme cases, I don't think I'd let my Dad get away with wearing a sports jersey in public. Charles Barkley and 50 Cent have both said publicly that jersey-wearing should be limited to men 30 and under. Barstool Sports, a very legitimate source for Boston sports commentary, says the cutoff is 33. Tough break for those middle-agers who still think they have the pizazz to sport the Flutie classic to Shea Field on a crisp fall afternoon. But older jersey wearers have a bad wrap in some circles- for example, once this BC football season we were in a friend's box enjoying the game with a group very diverse in age. A guest, who was rooting loudly for the visiting team, was wearing his team's jersey. He seemed a little too old for his outfit, but we let it fly. However, this guy also ended up being the belligerently drunk one in the box who was swearing at BC and screaming "O'Brien, I'm gonna shoot you..... with a gun!!!!" He had to be publicly chastised by men his age for being inappropriate in front of the women and children, and he sat down embarrassed, with shame on his face and mustard on his Wolfpack jersey. If this is the kind of adult male who is wearing a jersey, we think that's a red flag. We still aren't sure if there is an age at which a guy is too old to rock a jersey, but we would use careful discretion. Don't be "that guy".

Holy Has Beens!

We knows words can't describe it. We try to tell our friends, our parents, our priests, our imaginary girlfriends, etc. But eventually we just smile and stop trying- because Has Beens parties cannot be put into words.
On Friday night, we hosted the year's first official Has Beens Hockey Club social function. We were expecting Big Things, as this was Rookie Night followed by a Has Beens extravaganza open to only our closest friends, family, and fanatics. Within our organization, every member is considered a rookie on Rookie Night, so everybody goes through the initiation process. The details of this magical night are confidential, but ask any Has Been about it, and just see the look in his eyes upon its mention.
We approach our parties as we approach our hockey games, potential girlfriends, financial accounting case studies, etc. Preparation is key. Before a hockey game, we will do chalk talk and make sure everyone is on the same page with our systems. While in pursuit of a special vixen, we will do our homework and due diligence- researching via Facebook, cross-referencing on Agora, and identifying mutual friends. Weeks of planning go into Has Beens parties, and it always pays off. We do telethons for the Has Beens Social Fund, DJ Noff and Bain Train put together the best iPod playlist on the East Coast, everyone pitches in on Has Beens decorations, the prestigious guest list is compiled, and we secure enough libations to make the entire I.R.A. legless. It is an arduous process, but one that we enjoy nonetheless, for we know that a splendid soiree will ensue.
When it's go-time, the energy is incredible. With our Rookie night commencing with the traditional "knighting" of each Has Been, which officially recognizes their personal release of "the dream" and complete acceptance of being a Has Been, there was a line at the door and several VIP/ Honorary Has Beens inside observing the Da Vinci Code-esque rituals (lead by Brother Kelly, our team chaplain). The suspense and excitement which permeated the waiting crowd was reminiscent of the Filene's Basement Annual Bridal Gown Sale. Everyone knew that upon the completion of Rookie Night, an absolute gongshow of a party would take place- a memorable evening of friends, dancing, revelry, and celebration of all that is the Has Beens Hockey Club.
As I said before, I really can't even attempt to describe the party. Within a few days, we will have hundreds of pictures up on HasBeensHockey.com for your enjoyment. For those who attended: take your laptop to Bapst, get your wireless going, and engage in a few moments of thoughtful reflection while perusing the pictures. While you're at it, check out the newest Has Beens Cover Girl. For those who didn't attend or who didn't get past the velvet rope: We wish you could've joined us, please hang 'em up and try again.

Other Weekend Highlights: While most social activities pale in comparison to Has Beens parties, this weekend was actually chock-full of good times. On Saturday night, your boys from gongshow@BC were doing some field work downtown. Our friends from the Pittsburgh Penguins, most notably Scituate's Son Ryan Whitney, Brooks Orpik (an officially rostered member of the 2004-2005 Has Beens Championship team), and Sid (the Kid) Crosby, all of whom are loyal gongshow@bc readers, were in town for a game against the Bruins and joined us for an old-fashioned gongshow following the game. We were joined by our BC crew, several Scituate natives, my brother Steve, and many other notables from the greater-Boston hockey community at The Greatest Bar and at Trinity in Faneuil Hall, both revered establishments which attract great crowds.

Hillside Napkin Notes: *Today was a great day in Hillside. Greels had been up all night working, and needed some quality relaxation. Pearcey had just dominated a Mass Comm. exam. Adam Reasoner had brought his Apple iBook with him, and we were doing some major wireless social networking. We got the name of a Hillside regular, who had thus far been known simply as "Book Girl" or "Red Shirt" from her friend, and looked her up on Facebook. From her photos, we could then identify all of her friends at the table and instantly knew where they were from, what classes they took, and the status of their lovelife. We then pretended that we had gone to high school with them, or that we shared a class, or that we had met at Orientation. Facebook is great. *We are leading a crusade against cash-paying during primetime in Hillside. It takes way too much time and meanwhile the line is lengthening exponentially. The cash-payers have no choice, though, and it is up to Eagle card-holders to bite the bullet for their fellow diners and swipe for the cash-only peasants. *Finally, a MAJOR Hillside Violation- check out this picture, taken with Brett Motherwell's camera phone, during lunch this past week. This is completely unacceptable and if identified, these Hillsiders will be banished to the Rat, where they can sleep all they want.

Big Ups To.....: *BC Women's Volleyball for dominating their way to a 2nd ACC victory. *Alex Bain for driving his Trail-Rated Jeep Grand Cherokee off the back of a tow-truck in Cleveland Circle. *BC Women's Hockey team for their barn-burning OT victory over a very bitter UNH squad on Saturday night; this lead to a historic first-ever Top 10 national ranking! *Whoever is behind the sweet statue going up on the lawn behind Higgins and Fulton. That's the kind of stuff that makes this campus so unstoppable. We will update you when we find out who the statue is of, the story behind it, etc. Our money is on St. Ignatius, the Keeper of the Flame.

Halloween Recap // Snippets

So Halloween has become one of the top social occasions at BC, right up there with Marathon Monday and football gamedays. We've talked about it, and it's interesting what happens to Halloween throughout the lifetime. As a young kid, it's definetly a huge event: as a real young one, you don't really know what's going on; throughout elementary school, it becomes cooler and cooler and peaks during the years when you start trick-or-treating without an adult supervisor. We remember fondly the days when our parents would trail at a "cool" distance to be sure we didn't get hit by a car, get abducted by the notorious Halloween kidnappers, or eat any candy without sufficient wrappers. But that Halloween rolled around, I'm thinking sometime around 4th or 5th grade, when everyone else was allowed to go out alone and your parents were still sending a trailer. "Real bush league, Mom" we would say. Parents totally hampered the experience, preventing anything involving eggs, silly string, etc. It also ruined the chance of sprinting from house to house, a style of trick-or-treating which maximizes candy collection and is huge for bragging rights. Halloween was at its coolest for those few years, (which should end at about 8th grade), when we trick-or-treated alone and wreaked havoc all throughout town. We would hit up the neighborhoods most notorious for attracting the cool kids, where nice mothers in witch hats would give out candy liberally, and every few houses we might even get a king size Butterfinger.
With junior high and high school, Halloween became less and less of a diversion. We weren't allowed to go trick-or-treating, and we were too old for Halloween parties at school. Although Thayer Academy has one of the best Halloween costume contests in the prep school circuit, the thrill of All Hallow's Eve just wasn't there anymore. Then came college. The excitement and revelry of Halloween was back. Costumes were more important than ever, and Halloween grew from a one night outing into a weekend long extravaganza. It's a totally different experience. The girls' costumes are usually a tad bit risque- because of this excessive showing of skin, you will notice many sunburned coeds (victims of last minute over-exposure at the tanning salon) at the Plex, working hard to get tight in the days leading up to the big weekend. All of this hard work pays off at the numerous on and off-campus costume parties, all of which feature free-flowing libations and dancing reminiscent of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video. We chose to hit up virtually every option in the Cleveland Circle area, showcasing our costumes on the catwalk at Applebees, Mary Ann's, Roggie's, CitySide, and the more prestigious spots like 1942, 1914, Ignacio, and 5 Ayr Road. Mike was a female senior citizen modeled after the classic Florida retiree complete with lipstick on the teeth, beautiful green sweatsuit, walker, golf visor, inch-thick glasses, old lady perfume & pocketbook, and appropriate bosom alterations. Joe was Hulkamania-era Hulk Hogan and wowed the crowd with his baby-oiled, heavily bronzer'd muscles and spandex booty shorts. Pearcey aka Hulk Hogan was seen at one point autographing the arm of the homeless 7/11 Indian chief, a once-crazy/ heavily-intoxicated man who has recently turned over a new leaf and can now be seen jamming with his new band in and around the Circle. Look for him working the door at the next Has Beens bash.

Smelly Quad Phenomenom- as the self-proclaimed best people-watchers on campus, we wanted to give everyone a heads up on something smelly going on in the Quad. Over the next few weeks, Quad-crossers will smell a vomit-like stench while traversing the beautifully-bricked center of our campus. Contrary to common belief, the pungent aroma is not from overly-intoxicated Upper-bound froshies who lose their stomach after a long night of punishing Busch Lites. It is actually a naturally occurring stench that comes from the foul-smelling berries of a dominant Quad tree. We think it is called the Ginkgo Biloba. The berries fall off the branch every year around Halloween, and every time one is stepped on, the essence permeates the Quadosphere. We're glad we could clear this up for everyone. Watch your step.
Door-Holding- At a hilly school like BC, where there is rarely a walk without a gigantic set of stairs or an elevator ride, students must learn how to cross distances quickly while using up the least energy. The Hillside elevator is one the most important resources on this campus. However, we have observed an awkward situation which arises when one rides the Hillside lift. Say I just finish up a Tuscan Cheese and I want to go up to O'Neill Library to check the Has Beens Hockey Club website. 1) I take the Hillside elevator up to the fourth floor, usually crammed in with a kid who I kind of know but can never remember his name, so I throw out the ever-reliable "Therrre he is.." and another anonymous elevator rider, possibly of AHANA descent. 2) the elevator arrives at the 4th floor, and I try to let the other riders out first, but there is a hesitation and we all end up doing the stutter step. No-name guy bumps into AHANA girl, we all shrug, and step out. 3) Thinking we are out of the awkward situation, we look up to see the double doors that go out the back entrance of 21 Campanella Way, leading out to the walkway to lower O'Neill Library. There is two-way traffic at these doors, and everyone is in a rush. 4) I hold the door for AHANA girl, who holds it for no-name guy. A series of enthusiastic thank you's are exchanged. 5) 1.5 seconds later, next set of double doors. Same thing, but the thank you's are a little quieter. Everybody starts looking to see if they can break off to the left or right and avoid the door-holding situation at the fast-approaching O'Neill backdoors. 6) The AHANA girl is doing a fast-walk, and no-name guy has a real long stride. Nobody gains any ground, and we end up in the same sequence as before. The O'Neill doors, for some reason, are very heavy and take a hearty yank to pull all the way open. A quiet "thanks" is muttered by the no-namer and just a "ssssss" by AHANA girl, and this is really starting to get awkward. 7) No-name guy is getting sweaty palms and tries to make a fast break up the right lane to escape the situation. He loses footing on the stairs and falls, dropping his TI-82 and scuffing his Air Force Ones. A cute junior tutoring in the Connors Learning Center sees the whole thing. What a disaster. AHANA girl is playing it cool, surely engaged in a fake cell phone call to nobody. 8) The final set of doors, notoriously heavy because of the air pressure in the stairway. I lean back and pull the door open, holding it back for my new AHANA friend. And you know what? The ungrateful young lady doesn't even thank me. No "Thank You," no "Thanks," not even a fake-thanks "sssss". The final door was the hardest of them all to hold open, and I don't even get a nod of appreciation. Next time she should change lanes and open her own door. My most recent innovation in door-holding is the handicap button. It eliminates the awkwardness of holding the door and hearing the "Thank You's" devolve into "sssss"'s and finally into just awkward silences. Hit the handicap button, and you can step on the gas and escape the situation completely, and the door will be nicely propped open for the next person.
One last thing- The next time you and your friends (or any group of people) are enjoying a good hearty laugh, pay close attention to the last few seconds of the moment. Following a good ol' kneeslapper, everybody breaks into a series of haha's, AHHHHH's, and hehe's. However, these noises have to end at some point. It's hard to put into writing, but listen hard for the quiet, semi-awkward "ahhhhh" at the very end of a good chuckle. Everyone does it. Once you start listening for it, it's hilarious, and leads to even more belly-busting. Haha, Haha, Hahahahaha, Haha, Ha, Ha, ha, ha, ahhhhhhhh. It's that final "ahhhhhh" which is the best part of any group laughing session. You heard it here first.

Camp Trin Trin is truly a great place, with vixens aplenty and good dudes to boot. Same goes to the soldiers at Harvard- just because you guys didn't get into BC doesn't mean you can't keep up to date with our superior social scene. I got great feedback today from the UNH boys, who have been added to our list of college hockey teams who read the gongshow@bc on a daily basis: UMaine (home of Billy Ryan, a dear friend of mine and a true gongshow), Brown, BU, UMass Lowell, Providence, Amherst College, Skidmore College, Northeastern, Conn College, Babson, and the list goes on. Also on the list of our out-of-school readers are a number of professional puck squads- most notably from the Pittsburgh Penguins organization, one-time Has Been and BC Eagle Brooks Orpik, and Scituate native and apple-machine Ryan Whitney. These boys will be in the Bean this weekend, and we welcome them home. We also have an extensive readership within the AHL and ECHL (Neddy H) and we would like to thank all our guys for their support and for spreading the word. You are all true gongers.

Has Beens start off the season on the right skate with a blue-collar victory over Chevy 1st, a strong team of froshies who still had their high school legs under them. The Has Beens, most of whom had not hit the ice since last year's championship, slowly got their hands back and scored 4 third-period goals to seal the deal. See complete game recap here. This season-opener, which was a true test for the HB's, showed that IM hockey has become much more than just a Beer League.
On the Facebook front: The Halloween season brings lots of new Facebook pictures, plus some awesome Webshots updates. The average BC student will be logging approximately 2 hours per night this week, perusing Facebook and Webshots, and reflecting on how glorious the Halloween celebrations were. Checking out Webshots, however, can be a dangerous task. Most Webshots users, especially girls, have the IMchaos link in their profile, so they know how many times you look at their Webshots. Sophomore Puck Power Danny Bertram found this one out the hard way.

Has Beens Season Preview

Sunday marks the official start of the Has Beens Hockey Club second season of excellence. Read on for a brief history of this esteemed institution.
In September of '04, two of Boston College's most prolific scholar-athletes were getting diesel at the Plex. As we, Mike and Joe, alternated sets on the bench (throwing up 300lbs and grunting like the women's rugby team), ideas started to fly about how we could create a movement which would include several of the most important aspects of our lives: hockey, parties, and muscular young guys. Joe was on a one-year hiatus from his position of netminder for the BC Eagles, and Mike was a recent retiree, hailing from the prep school Powerhouse of Puck- Thayer Academy. Although he had decided to come to Boston College and give up the dream, Mike's desire to hang out with his wang out in a locker room with a bunch of other fellas was too great to ignore, and he needed to get back on the ice. Joe needed to stay active and keep his hockey senses sharp. And thus, the Has Beens were born.
The idea started modestly- an intramural hockey team of recent retirees who had played good schoolboy hockey. A motley collection of former prep school poster-boys and other past-their-primers came together, and we all realized what kind of potential our franchise had. Not only did we have a bunch of good players, but we also had some of the best dudes on campus. What started as simply a recreational puck squad was becoming a social institution and the kind of brotherhood that you can't find outside of the rink. Within weeks, the Has Beens had thrown the first of many legendary Has Beens bashes- shindigs where beverages and beautiful vixens were aplenty, and the dancefloor debauchery was straight out of CSI: Lansdowne.
The inaugural season of the Has Beens Hockey Club was certainly a success. The team cruised to an IM Championship, playing with class and displaying a skill level and toughness not often seen in a recreational beer league. The rest of the league responded to this upping-of-the-ante, and the quality of play and commitment to the league increased noticeably. There were highlight reel snipes, open-ice burials by Has Beens goons Kev Gill and Ryno Reynoso, memorable goal celebrations, and even some quality fisticuffs with our most heated rivals. But what the boys really took away from the first season was the enjoyment of being on a hockey team, something that several of them had not anticipated to feel ever again. The locker room banter, the post-game outings, and the unmatchable camaraderie of a close-knit hockey team- this is what the Has Beens are all about.

Introducing the 2005-2006 Boston College Has Beens Hockey Club:

Andrew Baird--> rugged d-man out of Milton Academy; can QB the PP with ease and knows more about alcoholic drinks/clubs/bars/college/everything than anyone.
Ben Bolduc (rookie)--> Froshy from Lawrence Academy; rangy power forward who will bring some bang to the Has Beens front line.
John Chandler--> came in mid-season last year from Rollins College; part of the Has Beens arsenal of big bangers who snipe on command; a Double Eagle who fought heroically for BC High.
Kyle Concannon--> one of the few out-of-staters on the HB's; is a great asset to the team and can play anywhere and let's his snipes do the talking.
Peter Frates--> a Birdballer from St. John's Prep who often gets confused for Ray Bourque; Fr8-Train is a kid who has really bought into the Has Beens system and plays/parties like a rock star.
Kevin Gill--> maybe the most reliable role-player in the B.C.I.M.N.H.L., Kev knows when the time is right to crush a mofo or just dangle on a poor soul for the game-winner. Can sometimes be found in the penalty box, being a bash brother.
Mike Greeley (C)--> A true Has Been d-man out of Thayer Academy, this soldier embodies all that is Has Beens Hockey Club. A co-founder of the program.
Phil Holden--> one/half of the ferocious twinasaurus rex that dominated Mass. public high school hockey and now snipes blindfolded for the Has Beens. Also a BC golfer.
Tim Holden--> white kid out of Westwood, Mass who is the ying to Phil's yang. You can spot these two easily because they are in green gear and they just toe-dragged your ass.
Bobby Kneeland (C)--> Winthrop High / Philips Exeter wonderchild who scored the last minute game-winner in last year's championship. Look up sick athlete in the encyclopedia, and you will see a picture of Bobby Bones.
Nick Knellinger--> aka Smelly Nelly, this Colorado native played his puck at Brewster Academy and can wheel and deal with the best of 'em. Great attitude and great mop of blond hair to boot.
Marek(C)--> studying abroad right now somewhere, but Marek is one of the best-looking dudes on the team and is a true leader. Huge asset coming back 2nd semester.
Jeff Marr--> aka Marrzilla- Jeff is a Dan Bertram twin on and off the ice. A former Milton Academy Mustang, Jeff can dangle and has a great smile.
Matt McElaney (rookie)--> aka Mack- this is a freshly-minted Has Been out of St. Seb's. Will be a huge addition to the team and has already proven himself as a true gongshow.
Paul Monaco (rookie)--> a senior recruit from Burlington, MA... Paul brings a great attitude to the table and is also ready to host some historical Has Beens ho-downs in Iggy A15. We are very excited to see what he is gonna bring to the team athletically.
Conor O'Brien--> aka Wrabs- a solid d-man who protects the net but is also ready to unleash some bomb-zillas from the point. A very loveable character.
Ryne Reynoso--> Ryno! another Birdballer, out of Idaho. No, u da ho. Spends a lot of time on the bench coaching, but once in a blue moon suits up for a big game. Killer wrister/ best-looking kid in the league and maybe the school.
Mike Skryz--> Probably the nicest kid on campus. Skryz can dangle, Skryz can snipe, and by gosh can Skryz slay dragons. HUGE part of this program. Another BC High boy.
Nick Tarnoff--> aka Noff- You know who he is. Sophomore netminder, Heights photographer, Reservoir serial flasher, freshman girl quality control consultant. Noff, Noff, NOFF NOFF NOFF!

COACHING STAFF:

Joe Pearce (Head Coach)- A true student of the game, Pearcey rules with an iron fist on the Has Beens bench. A role model for everyone. Noff's Godfather.
Kelly Donahue (Team Chaplain/ Asst. Coach)- Fr. Kelly is the best pre-game speech maker around and keeps things real on the bench. Looks dapper in his game-day suit.
Matt Fumoso- (Asst. Coach) - aka Moose; This guy has shown dedication beyond compare to our program. He is always gellin like a felon and knows the game well.
Adam Reasoner- (Goalie Coach)- This newcomer has perhaps the toughest job in the league- teaching Noff how to play hockey. A Freshman BC goaltender, Adam is the second coming of Coach Pearce and could be the great JP's succesor at the helm of the HB's.

That's the squad for this year. We have some verbal commitments from a few prospects who could get added to the roster in the next week or so.

Homecoming Recap // Snippets

Homecoming Dance (Hurricane Katrina Hits Bayside High): BC's annual Homecoming Dance, which has bounced around a few different locations in the past years, was hosted this year in the Mods Parking Lot (where even the cars are drunk!!!). Rumors were flying about Breathalyzer tests being administered at the entrance, but this did not faze the hard-partying coeds of Boston College. As is tradition, the dancers arrived in rosy-cheeks and glassy-eyes and wearing their best dancing shoes. What started out as wholesome formal fun quickly tailspinned into a rain-soaked, puddle-splashing PeeFest. Read on for eyewitness reports.
"The Port-a-Potties were located against the plex, so you had to walk out from under the tent and through the rain to urinate. Kids were standing behind the food tables, pissing under them. It was complete chaos, and I was worried for my personal safety. Plus, I couldn't even French Kiss my girlfriend because the dancefloor was so packed!!" -Pistol Pete Frates, Has Beens d-man / Birdball #3 /A&S '07.

Rumor has it that the dancefloor was soon flooded and rioting dancers began to loot Lower Dining Hall of chicken-parm subs. It's too bad that we have been banned from so many hotels because BC students can't control their urge to urinate. We are now on-campus, outdoors, under tents in a parking lot, because hotel managers supposedly don't like it when you pee in their elevators. This is an epidemic which is slowly threatening the Boston College social scene. Here is an excerpt of an article following a debacle of a past Homecoming dance-

At midnight, the hotel asked the Office of the Dean for Student Development (ODSD) officials to end the dance.
"We asked if the dance could continue as close to 1 a.m. as possible," Covelle said. "But students were vomiting, breaking stuff, urinating in the ballroom, in stairwells and in other conference rooms. They were also passed out throughout the hotel."

Sounds like a real gonger to us!!!! However, because of this bad behavior, we are now dancing to a whole new tune. A real crappy one, if you ask us. We went from hardwood dancefloors to white-lined parking spaces. We heard that one overly-intoxicated reveler vomited in Parking Space 28B. However, one group did benefit from this wet and wild sock hop- the AHANA Boat Cruise is now the biggest and best dance at the Heights.

Today we will be a day of barrier breaking on gongshow@bc. No, we are not going on the AHANA Boat Cruise, nor are we coming out for National Coming-Out Week, but rather we are attempting to put into words something that peeves us every day. We don't want to insult anybody. However, if we do insult somebody, we think we'll be able to turn the page. And you are hearing something that your friends should have told you by Day 3 of Freshman Orientation.
First, we would like to try to explain college- not the noun, the adjective. College is not a word to describe simply the excessive consumption of alcohol, partying, hooking up, etc (because we at gongshow@bc completely support, promote, and participate in these things) but more to describe the kid who tries so hard to be sure that everyone knows that he does drink, he does party, and he does wheel bodacious babes- when in real life, this is usually the last kid who is a soldier of the night- he is never a true gongshow. Let us describe the kid who is Joe College.
Headwear: Cowboy hat (sometimes made out of the cardboard from the thirty they just crushed), John Deere trucker hat (or many other cliche mesh hats), aviator shades (not always a bad thing, but most of the time), or a Von Dutch hat (no explanation necessary).
T-Shirt: BC BEIRUT, Upper Campus Drinking Team, BC SuperDrunk... you know what we mean. You drink? We didn't know until we saw your sweet shirt.
Accessories: Miller Lite sweat bands, the "Budweiser: Drink Responsibly" bracelet you got for being 21+ three nights ago at Roggies, your empty flask that you bring out with you for no reason, etc.
Room Raiders- So COLLLLEGE!: Collection of empty liquor bottles that you have brought back and forth each summer, your Periodic Table of Sex poster, the 365 Reasons to Drink poster, Mixology 101 poster, etc... your shot glass collection, strategically placed Busch Light empties, etc.
On the Web: Your AIM profile has the "I'm a Budweiser, what are you?" link, away messages that talk about how much you drank, how hungover you are, asking "does anyone know how i got home last night?", your Facebook picture has a keg/beer/etc in it, your Facebook interests are funneling, shotgunning, power hours, etc. You have 700 Facebook friends before even moving on to Newton Campus. You know what we mean and you know who you are.
Things You Love to Say: House cup, house rules, re-rack, keg's kicked, triple keggerator, balls back, it's cheaper at Hurley's, let's head to the MODS! (28B!), long line at Mary Ann's, pfffft, beer pong? it's BEIRUT!...etc.
Things You Do: crush beer cans on your forehead, kegstands, carry thirties on the shoulders (boombox style), you do "stitches" on your arm/collect tabs etc so everyone knows how many beers or wine coolers you've drank, boot & rally and publicize it, brag about your 30-cup beirut tourney, BC bus gymnastics, etc.

Disclaimer: We are not off the hook when it comes to getting a little colllllllege! at times. In fact, everyone needs a little college in them, or else they are terrible people. For example, at his freshman orientation, Pearcey went to a toga party in Vanderslice where he played water beirut with several other hard-partying froshies. To make this worse, he had already turned 21. That's college. Last year, we were the owners of a sick megaphone which we obnoxiously brought everywhere and made a scene. That's college. We have both done the parallel bars on the BC bus, on multiple occasions. That's college. We own several of the aforementioned t-shirts. That's college. At Has Beens bashes, we sometimes lose our shirts on the dancefloor. That's college. We are the proud owners of the best (and only) tandem bike on campus, which we use to cruise Upper for froshy vixens. That's borderline college. You get the point. Everyone should have some element of college in them, but it's the kids who are way too college that concern us. They are not gongshows, but they think they're living the dream.
The MODS:

The Mods are perhaps the most college thing on campus. For non-BC kids, the Mods are a bunch of small house things where seniors live, and are known to be the biggest gongshow place on campus. At times, they are a ton of fun. Everyone has had this discussion before: Kid #1 "I live in Kostka, where do you live" Terrible Senior Girl: "I live in the MODS." She says it in that brutal tone of voice, like you are supposed to run and grab her a cold one from the nearest fridge. They follow it up with the standard "you should stop by sometime, we always have tons of beer."

In case you are too drunk to read the poster in this picture, it says "Pregame Harder Than You Party." This is pure college. This is the Mod where a resident has been known to stand on his front stoop, beer in hand, in a bathrobe and cowboy hat, just being college on Saturday mornings as people set up their tailgates. Total sweetness.

Revolutionizing Hillside

As you guys know, Hillside is our homebase. It is where we get our New England Classics, where we do our crossword puzzles, and where we do the majority of our people-watching. But no matter how much we love our Hillside, there is definetly some room for improvement. Read on.

Item #1) The Hillside Real Estate Crunch--> "Table-Pooling": Alright folks, we don't eat in the Rat for a reason. BC students flock to Hillside for the culture and atmosphere- the vanilla lattes, the panini's, and to enjoy the company of the purest yuppy crowd on campus. For all you econ majors, it is a simple supply/demand curve. The supply of tables is simply not adequate for the high demand by hungry Hillsiders. We have all experienced it- swiping your Eagle Card only to realize that the house is full and you don't know anyone with a table. But here's the frusturating part- 25% of the tables are being occupied by a single tenant, when there is room for atleast 4 or 5 kids (or 8 or 9, if you are on the girls soccer team or sailing team). We think we've come up with a good solution--> table-pooling. From now on, if you are a solo diner (or even worse, a Hillside studier), you will be introduced to another single tenant and so on and so on, until we have full tables of once-solo diners. This free's up several tables for the general population to enjoy. So tomorrow, if you are a single tenant, look around for the nearest solo diner, and introduce yourself. Be a part of the solution.

Item #2) The Backpack Rule- With the Hillside bottleneck effect, the lines are long enough already- we don't need Franky Five Classes (a Newtonian with his entire encyclopedia set in the backpack) wearing that monstrosity into the Red Zone (the area within the registers.) Franky is unknowingly taking up enough space for three people, which causes the lines to extend out to the Plex. Bookbags are to left outside the Red Zone. Don't be afraid to call kids on violations, this will be a team effort.

Shout Outs- *Medium Ups to Brian Boyle for a valiant effort in tonight's pie-eating contest. He lost to Mista Smiff who was just inhaling the pie in his mouf. *Big Ups to the folks at Applebee's for a great Grand Opening night- a true gonger, BC baseball stud J-Mac's 21st, and Paul Astuto's Cleveland Circle waiter debut. *Small Ups to the Mean Girls, who still do not sit with Joe or bring him a pen at Mass Comm. *Huge Ups to Yasmin Martinez for her generous sharing of typed history notes, the boys @ gongshow love you. *Good Luck to Dave D, our favorite off-road vehicle operator, as he battles the state of NH in court tomorrow in an effort to retain his driver's license. Through the Grapevine: Rumor has it that the Cleveland Circle's favorite crazy drunk homeless Indian was granted a substantial financial aid package and thus will be a walk-on lineman for the Eagles starting Monday. He has been working out in front of Store24 for six years now and is excited to join the squad. He says he chose Boston College because "it's exciting to play in the ACC and Ryan Ohliger has really sweet earrings."
In other breaking news, there is a new "serial flasher" at the Reservoir and he has been seen flashing female runners at night while sailing around on his boat. The police sketch artist has drawn this picture of him to help narrow the suspects. -->

Lots of stuff going on at the Heights this week folks:

Applebee's @ Cleveland Circle- GRAND OPENING! This place has a MOD-load of potential. Some people are calling it the new Mary Ann's. Word on Beacon St. has it is opening up tomorrow, Monday 10/16. Lots of kids are planning on heading over there and staking a claim at the bar, which not only will serve delicious beverages but also some high-quality grub. Applebee's has potential to become the next big spot for BC underagers who have their cousin's library card for an ID. That would be sweet.

BIG DOG PIE-EATING CONTEST- We just got word of a pie-eating contest of beastly proportions at Tuesday's BC vs. Maryland volleyball match @ 8 oclock in the PowerGym. The behemoth competitors are all the biggest dogs from BC's top teams: Brian Boyle aka Meat, the sniping juggernaut dangler of BC Hockey, Craig Smith aka MISTA SMIFF aka GET 'EM CRAAAIG, the baddest baller of them all, Mathias Kiwanuka, BC's favorite Ugandan Warrior, and Kathrin Ress aka Italy, the towering terror of BC women's b-ball. This event promises to be entertaining, and a big crowd is expected as the v-ball team looks for their second ACC victory. See you on Tuesday night, 8 in the PowerGym (Conte Forum). If you don't come for the actual volleyball, or the pie-eating contest, come for those incredible shorts that the girls wear on the court. Good luck to BC Whalleyball and to the Pie-Eaters. Our money is on the Boyler because he has a very large mouf.

Senior Pictures are a rite of passage for the American high schooler. Some kids spend ridiculous amounts of money trying to find that perfect pose, that perfect laser background, and just the right touch of the airbrush. Here are some of the most popular types of senior portraits. Let this posting serve as a guide of what not to do in a school picture.
The Jock/ Meathead: We all know this guy. Lose the varsity jacket and the balls, because this is among the worst pictures in the league. This is the kid that goes on to wear his "BC Football #173" sweatsuit every day so that we know he is on the squad. Sweet. It could be worse, though, if you search Google Images you can find pictures with the football helmet on. Actually, I just found one that is the WORST. Here's another bad one. One more.

Hands on Knees / Brutal Hat: Whoever told this girl that this looked good is going to hell. 99% of the time a hat is a bad decision for any girl, but this one is just 1-800-TERRIBLE. The Beret is just a bad look, and the hands on the knee, as you see here, is a fundamentally flawed pose. We feel bad for this girl, because she looks like a nice kid, good student, etc.... but this picture is just criminal. Beautiful smile, though.

The Car: This one doesn't even need explanation. Just fast forward twenty years-- Kid: "Dad, why is your yearbook picture you sitting in a Chrysler Sebring??" Dad: "I don't know son, it was cool back then..."- The truth is, it wasn't cool back then. The car picture is never cool and will never be cool. This is something this kid will regret for the rest of his life. It's right up there with my Uncle Billy's Tweety Bird tattoo on his right bicep and Nick Lachey's cheating on Jessica Simpson. Just regrettable.

These are just a few examples of the senior picture disasters which have come to my attention. School Pictures should be simple and normal. Nothing too flashy. We were always "traditional background" type guys. The kids who had laser backgrounds were the same kids who got their ears pierced, never did their homework, and had "cool parents." Those kids did not go on to college, and now they are the ones selling cell phones at those Verizon kiosks in the mall.
Things to avoid: "theme pictures", for example- the hunting motif, the drummer, the videogamer, or the cowboy. Instead, head to the beach and take your standard beach picture. Also, you can always go with the reliable/popular tree lean.

In closing, be sure to advise your younger siblings/friends on how to handle their senior pictures. A bad senior picture can haunt you for the rest of your life. This final picture, for example, should haunt this kid and his family for generations. He is terrible. I think I have seen him at the Plex before, grunting and sweating through his sleeveless shirt on the bench for hours at a time. But hey, anything to get ready for rugby season, right?

The boys at gongshow@bc would like to congratulate the BC football team for their huge W today against Wake Forest. Great performance in the rain, and one of a number of awesome college football games today. The BC Puck Squad is looking to bounce back from a loss at Michigan (which was reportedly an awesome game in front of an insane Michigan crowd) with a battle tonight at Bowling Green. Godspeed to the boys.

Thursday Night Lights // Weekend Preview

So last night, several of us made the trek down to the Theater District to go see Atmosphere at the Roxy. There were a lot of BC hip hop heads in attendance, and it was a good show for those who didn't end up losing track of time in the dingy basement bar next door and missing the whole thing. But a couple of pitchers and pizzas later, everyone was geared up for the Mean Girls party on Ayr Road, which proved to be the Main Event. The dance floor was packed with sophomore vixens and an equal amount of male predators hovering about.
There are a few people who I would like to thank. First, whoever spills their beer on the dance floor. At first, you think it may be a "party foul," but you are actually coming to the rescue of dozens of white boys like myself who are attempting to dance. The slickness of the hardwood floor makes it possible to slide around and make it look like you are real smooth. I fooled many a party-goer last night because of this. I'd also like to recognize the people who shut off the lights. A dancefloor is always so much better if it is dark. Not pitch black, but pretty dark. It gives everyone a little more confidence, because nobody can really see what is going on; it also allows for an increased element of sloppiness. Has Beens Parties are famous for having the sloppiest/best dancefloor on the East Coast, and the lights are always off. It's along the same lines as how a lot of people like to turn off the lights in the bedroom- lowers inhibitions. So, at the next party, if you see me pouring beers out on the dancefloor and turning off the lights- don't say anything. Help me help you.

This Weekend: Friday Night- looks like it's going to be pretty standard, bouncing around house parties and keeping it local... I'm hearing rumors of a freshman exodus to the Kong (Harvard Square) which promises to be a gongshow.
Saturday- BC vs. Wake Forest @ 12 I believe. It will be raining, so the plan of attack might be to watch it on tv somewhere, then hit up Shea Field immediately following the game. Anybody who was out there last weekend in the rain knows that a muddy Shea Field is very fun. Also, the rain has a weird effect on people and the tailgating scene seems to get very rowdy/belligerent when everyone is wet. Saturday night will be a gonger for sure.

Hillside Banter

So we were sitting in Hillside, and in walks the Noff. So we left.

Just kidding, Noff. You're great.

We were a little disappointed with the people-watching scene in Hillside today. Rainy, cold days bring out the North Faces and sweatpants. Winterization has set in, and you can see it in the eyes of every female on campus. The days of nice summer dresses are over, no more Lily Pulitzer, a lot more jeans and hoodies. We would like to remind the girls that winter does not officially start until December 21st. Everyone was talking about how much of a gongshow their weekend was, and it was good to be back in there and see all the usual suspects.

On a side note, we love the Mean Girls of BC. You know who you are. They are actually very nice, and we are glad the name we gave them is sticking. Keep up the good work girls, and remember to bring a pen for Pearcey @ Survey to Mass Comm.

A highly anticipated issue of The Heights comes out tomorrow, the only issue this week. With photographs by Noff, who doesn't love the campus newspaper?

BIG UPS to the Boston College Sailing Team, currently ranked #1 in the nation. Not only do they dominate on the water, but they dominate the Cleveland Circle social scene as well. Spicer, you are a great leader and a true gongshow.

Here we are up at the D Retreat Center in NH. It was a true gongshow, and we can't wait to get back there. This is during skeet shooting, when our instructor guy, a real intense Vietnam Vet, told us- "Don't blow your face off with this here 12 gauge, because I don't give CPR to people without faces, and there ain't no 911 up here."

Ok, so Pearcey and I spend a good amount of our waking hours sitting around, shooting the breeze, people watching, and just talking about life. There are many times when we wish we could share our conversations, our theories, and our observations with all of our friends who don't have the time to sit with us for hours on end in Hillside, the Quad, or Lower. Hopefully this blog can become something that our friends can check daily for some snippet from us, whether it be a comment on life at BC, a link to a good website, or an entertaining picture. We are planning on updating it every day, so we hope we can get a good following going. We would love to see our blog, "gongshow@BC", get in the rotation with facebook, email, and whatever else you guys may check every day.

If you want to see anything, or don't like something you see... let us know. We aim to please, but we aren't going to change our original plans of making a blog that is entertaining to us, primarily, and then our friends. Enjoy. -Mike Greeley & Joe Pearce
